Feb 14 Update

Rough day. Still some problems with high temps. But, they got it down with the cold pad, and now his temp is okay.

He is back on the ventilator, and at 60% O2. they are hoping to get him to 50% tomorrow. earlier attempts to wean him from the ventilator were creating problems, so, they are keeping him back on it.

He currently has ventilator induced pneumonia. But, the fluid situation is stable, and vitals are stable.

Condition is "critical stable".

Update - Sat Feb 13

John had a rough morning. More high fever. they have now got it down.

He's been back on the ventilator and sedated most of the day.

At this point, though, he is better (stable), with temp and vitals and such okay.

Other news: they found he had 2 liters extra fluid and are now treating that with lasics (this extra fluid comes from being horizontal and being on the ventilator). [lasics: meds to address too much fluid on board]

they did a cat scan of his legs, and found no clots there - good news.

cat scan of his heart - waiting to see what that shows.

Friday Feb 12 - Update

John had a high fever today, for about 5 hours.

They are treating this with a broad spectrum antibiotic. Unsure of the cause of the fever. They ran some tests and may know something in 48 hours. Or, it may never be clear. They were able to get the fever down with tylenol and cool packs and such, so, that is good.

They had taken him off the ventilator, but, he was having difficulty breathing, presumably because of the fever, so, they put him back on it.

John did have his eyes open off and on all day, which is good news.
